If the leaves are turning brown and staying on the branches your tree may be suffering from verticillium wilt which frequently results from overwatering or poor drainage. If this is what is causing the sides of the leaf to turn brown you should supplement the rainfall with manual watering. This can ruin the tree s appearance temporarily but it s unlikely to kill the tree. Silver or bronze colored streaks on leaves which eventually turn brown dry and crumbly.
Identifiable by black or grey spots surrounded by yellow halos peacock spot infections are sporadic and may take several years to become noticeable. Nitrogen is most frequently lacking nutrient in olive trees. The pests feed by puncturing plants and sucking out the sap inside creating the streaks. Most commonly brown leaf tips or brown edges on leaves are caused by the plant not getting enough water.
There are several reasons why this may happen. There may be too little natural water falling. Leaf spot causes the leaves of the olive tree to turn chlorotic yellow or whitish in color. Some of the yellow leaves fall from the trees but those that do not harbour the fungus so that it continues to spread ultimately causing defoliation and death of the tree.
This deficiency is most prevalent in heavy soils during cold and wet weather when nitrogen is less available.
