Olive Tree Care Container
Olive trees don t necessarily require extremely large pots that would be difficult to move around.
Olive tree care container. A pot will sustain growth up to three times wider than the pot itself. When growing olive trees in containers terracotta or wood is a preferable choice as these are more breathable and will help with drainage and insulation. Leave about an inch between the soil and the rim of the container so you ll have room to water. As with most pot grown plants olive trees do not like frozen roots.
Come spring the trees are wheeled out to the sunshine again. Regardless the tree will undoubtedly need repotting after about three to four years or you can remove the tree from the pot prune the roots take 2 3 inches 5 8 cm off and one third of the foliage and then repot with fresh potting soil. A good quality plastic pot however has the benefit of being more lightweight and less prone to breakage. Place the tree in the container and add more soil planting it no deeper than it was growing in its original pot.
Olive trees need little care once established. When selecting a container opt for clay or wood. Choose a large pot something in the range of 24 inches wide and at least the same depth and fast draining potting soil. Choose a location for the potted tree having at least 6 hours of full sun and plant in well draining loamy to gritty potting soil.
Place your container grown olive trees in a spot that receives at least 6 hours of full sunlight each day. A dwarf variety of lime tree is the best choice when growing lime trees in containers. Full sun to bright partial shade. Use olive tree soil mix or planting soil mix.
Alternatively you can to plant your tree in a container which has been partially filled with gravel or broken pot pieces. Olive trees like extremely well draining rocky soil. If your tree is in a nursery container turn it upside down and tap the bottom.
